Pre-Trial Release Predicts Case Outcomes

A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research determined that a person who can’t secure pre-trial release (bail out) is 27.5% more likely to plead guilty and 27.3% more likely to be found guilty by a jury.

In addition, without bail, a person can sit in jail for months, sometimes even years, without being convicted of any crime. The current criminal case backlog in Texas is so large that it can take 3 to 5 years to resolve.

Finally, a loved one in jail may be in danger of committing a second crime. If a brawl breaks out, they may be forced to defend themselves, which can lead to additional assault charges.

Securing bail is the best way to help your loved one make it to the other end of their arrest as safely as possible, and gives them their best chance to be acquitted or to have their charges dropped, dismissed, or released.

Do an inmate search right now to find out if your loved one is in trouble:

You can also perform a Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate search. If you’re still struggling, call us at (713) 477-5400 to get help with your search.

How Bail Bonds Work

The judge sets bail at a defendant’s arraignment. This is a court proceeding where:

  • The judge tells the defendant what they have been charged with.
  • The defendant enters a plea of “guilty,” “not guilty,” or “no contest.” If you plead guilty, you waive the right to a trial. Defendants should almost never plead guilty at an arraignment.
  • If the defendant pleads “not guilty,” the judge sets bail, and a trial date is set.

Once the judge sets bail, you will need to determine if you can pay the amount yourself or if you’ll need help. If you or your loved one can’t pay the amount yourself, OK Bail Bonds II can step in to help.

You’ll obtain at least one co-signer who also cares about getting your loved one out of jail. Then you’ll pay 10% down.

Next, we’ll try to put a hold on the individual in jail so they don’t get transferred to Harris County Jail (which means a much longer wait). Pasadena Jail doesn’t allow holds, but we do tell them we’re working on a bond.

Finally, either our runner or you will make a trip to the appropriate jail to execute the bond. Once the bond is exercised, your loved one will be released.

Often, we can complete this entire process over the phone, so call (713) 477-5400 now to get your loved one out of jail as quickly as possible.
